Sense of time

If you’re talking about a sequence of events that are happening at different times or at the same time, it helps to use an appropriate transition. By doing this, you help the reader work out the order, or relative timing, of what you’re talking about.

Last time we went to the beach, Mel got badly burnt. Since then, she’s remembered to use sun cream every time she went to the coast.

Finally, the bridge was finished and people were able to cross the river.

The antelope started to run away. At the same time, the cheetah broke into a sprint.
